Princess sandwich (Princeska) - quick and easy ground meat sandwiches

The Princess sandwich (Princeska) is one of the most popular and loved sandwiches in Bulgaria as well as many other Eastern European countries.

This sandwich is very versatile. It can be enjoyed at any time of the day. It can be a wonderful breakfast sandwich, or a quick lunch, or even a quick and easy dinner. And sometimes we have it multiple times a day because it is that good!

It requires very few ingredients, it takes no time to make, and it is a very versatile and easy sandwich that is a favorite in my household. I cannot wait for you to give it a try! Let me know when you do by leaving me a quick note below in the comments section.


  • 1 lb. ground meat (pork, chicken, beef, or meatloaf mix)

  • Italian white bread (or any other bread you prefer)

  • 1 bag (8 ounces) shredded cheese of your choice

  • 1 teaspoon of salt

  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1 teaspoon savory


  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees


  2. In a large bowl, mix the ground meat, the cheese, and all the spices. I prefer to use ground pork. Naturally, it has a little bit of fat in it and makes the sandwiches nice and moist. But if pork is not your favorite, feel free to use any other ground meat. For a dryer type of meat, you can add 1 egg to the mixture.


  3. Mix well until a uniform mixture is formed.

  4. Arrange the slices of bread on a baking pan and broil or toast one side of them.


  5. Spread a thin layer of the meat mixture on the non-toasted side and add more savory on top, if desired.


  6. Bake for 5-8 minutes until the sandwiches are golden brown. Turn on the broiler for the last 1-2 minutes for a darker top.


  7. Take them out of the oven and let them come to room temperature.
